On October 22nd, the university officially presented a community involvement project in the province of Manabi. The project was the construction of a drinking water treatment plant in the San Isidro district for people who were affected by the earthquake that hit the province of Manabi in Ecuador last April.

The aim of the project was to supply water to 50 children who study at the "9 de Octubre" school. To start working on this project, university representatives first visited the site to analyze the infrastructure, they determined the old pipe that brought water to the school could no longer be used, the optimal location of water by using electrical resistivity of soil and that water could be found 18 meters underground.

UPS signed an agreement with the district of San Isidro to carry out several activities; professors and students placed a water pump, a water tank donated by SENAGUA and a filter to purify the water.

"The result of the flow was two liters per second, an amount that exceeds what the school needs, so they recommended the community leaders that the surplus of water be stored in another tank for the rest of the community, said Sanchez.
