A special ceremony was held in the Automotive Mechanical Engineering Faculty in the university's branch in Cuenca to inaugurate the new Electric Mobility Laboratory (EmoLab). This laboratory has didactic and technological tools to study Electric Vehicles and it places UPS alongside a global tendency for having created the first electric mobility laboratory in the country.

Permanently monitoring the performance and the conditions of an electric vehicle will allow the functional parameters of this technology to be verified, adapted or corrected as well check its adaptability to the local and national environment.

Cristian Garcia, director of the automotive mechanical major, said "this new challenge is marked by a change of mentality of our students, they are more aware of their social responsibility and want to meet the needs of society through projects"

Renato Fierro, director of the laboratory, explained that the university's project on green mobility is aimed at promoting the use of alternative mobility through the use of an electric vehicle. He said that electric vehicles are becoming a real alternative due to the numerous advantages it offers: respect for the environment, energy efficiency and zero noise emissions.

Cesar Vasquez, vice president of the university's branch in Cuenca, said that the new tendencies in technology force us to continue doing research. We have to continue progress in research and this laboratory will make this easier.
