Thirty nine English teachers from the university's branch campus in Quito took the Teaching Knowledge Test- TKT, which is designed by the University of Cambridge in order to assess essential pedagogical knowledge that all English teachers should possess.

The teachers first attended training courses that were led by people form Education First, a Cambridge Authorized Center. By passing the courses, they obtained a certificate on methodology and management of english classes. This certification supports academic processes in this language which will benefit UPS students; it is also a sign of constant professional development.

UPS's agreement with Cambridge allows teachers to have access to this test at any time during their professional career. Adriana Guanuche, coordinator of the university's language institute, said the plan is that teachers take module 2 and 3 of the TKT during this year.

Additionally, UPS's branch campus in Quito was declared Exam Preparation Center for having prepared 83 students to take A2, B1 and B2 exams and surpassing the number of students who obtained international Cambridge certificates. The aim of this process is to improve professors' English level and support their professional development.
