New Materials and Transformation Processes Research Group

Presentation

High technology in developed countries is mainly fostered by the generation, development and use of new materials. This activity has encouraged research development and education in this field worldwide.

Locally, a systematic process for research to improve existing materials and create new materials in Ecuador has not been developed. The technology that is currently being used in this industry is generating a high degree of waste in material processing due to obsolete technology, lack of knowledge in workers, and others. The inappropriate use and transformation of materials increases production costs and make companies less competitive. 

The aim of the New Materials and Transformation Processes Research Group is to develop new materials in Ecuador and study new transformation processes, as well as being part of national and international research networks.  

 

Mission Statement

To generate research, technology innovation, and education in engineering, which will be used to solve problems in the field of materials and support technology and scientific development in the country.

 

Vision Statement

To be a national and international renowned research group that contributes to the improvement of science, technology and innovation in the field of materials by establishing cooperation networks with higher education institutions, production associations, national industries and national and international research centers. 

Objectives

  • Contribute to students' academic and research development at UPS

  • Contribute to solving problems in the field of materials, regionally and nationally

  • Build relationships with several agents involved in the field of materials

  • Generate knowledge and publish it

  • Transfer of technology towards productive sectors

Lines of Research

According to local and national needs and the government's guidelines, the New Materials and Transformation Processes Research Group (GiMaT) will research the following topics:

a.    New materials and innovation in transformation processes
b.    Characterization of new materials on a nanometer scale
c.    Simulation and modelling of composite materials
d.    Transfer of technology
e.    Community involvement
