To celebrate International mother language day, residents from the community of Catzuquí de Velasco and students from the Unidad Educativa 11 de Octubre school presented the book titled "Catzuquí de Velasco, Cultura identidad y memorias vivas. Etnografíando con niñas y niños."

The book was presented in the community fo Catzuqui, which is where all the research took place. The presentation was attended by Ruben Bravo, director of the anthropology undergraduate program; Hernan Hermosa, coordinator of the Abya Yala publishing house and students who were part of the research.

Patricio Guerrero, coordinator of the book, said this project emerged from the concern of the local government due to the introduction of technologies that have taken away some aspects of cultural identity from children and young people in the community.

The research group were school children who were asked to attend workshops on writing, systematization and data collection. The project was guided by Yajaira Suntasig, Sofia Chavez, Javier Herrera and Cristian Montenegro. "We wanted to show children their own identity based on an ethnographic guide", said Patricio Guerrero.

The aim was that children do not lose their cultural identity and are aware of their background. "It was a process of uniting academia and ancestral knowledge", said Cristian Montenegro.
The book will be part of the material that can be used in school and will be a constant reminder of people's culture.
