UPS professor and researcher Diego Chacón Troya, and a member of the Telecommunications and Telematics Research Group (GITEL) at UPS-Cuenca was one of the speakers at the IEEE International Smart Cities Conference 2015 (ISC2) which took place in Hotel Hilton in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico from the 25th to the 28th of October. Professor Chacón presented ":"Indoor Propagation Analysis Applied in Zigbee Networks"

This is the first annual conference sponsored by IEEE Smart Cities where the main topic was sustainability and the analysis of how cities around the world are affected everyday by changes in population, the weather, traffic, and other daily challenges it currently faces. Mexican, American and Chinese companies attended this event.

The paper presented by professor Chacón analyzed the operation of the physical layer of a ZigBee network, considering the correct distribution of network devices in the infrastructure of a standard apartment in a building. The tool developed for the coverage analysis is able to count the number of obstacles in the connection, estimate the distance between the elements that intervene, calculate the propagation losses in the building and graphically present the power that these elements receive. The calculation is performed between end devices and devices with routing capability such as Coordinators and Routers.

Diego Chacon also said that they have developed software to detect Zigbee devices  in home automation for housing which allows to know the coverage of each device , and to estimate the distance between them , the connection between elements is presented graphically , it is important to note that once the results are presented and they are not the ones you expected , you can change the location of the elements in the software and perform the calculations again.
