Dr. Walter Orozco´s research, which was part of his doctoral studies in communications and electronics at the Instituto Politecnico Nacional de Mexico where he received an honorable mention, was the development of a new model to repair smart antennas.

Professor Orozco explains his model in his paper titled "Adaptive beamformer based on the augmented complex least mean square algorithm" which will be published in the Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications and indexed to the ISI Web of Knowledge.

His article presents a new model of adaptive algorithm with mathematical basis to repair Smart antennas. The new model will significantly reduce the effects of sound waves in communication systems without modifying the physical repair of the antenna or increasing the digital processing of the signals.

Overall, the outcomes of the research showed that the new model improves the quality compared to other models, as well as a radiation pattern that efficiently selects the information signal to be recovered.

Dr. Orozco will be back at UPS-Cuenca next month. He thanked the university officials for all their support during his 4 years in Mexico.
