Alexander Bermeo Maldonado, member of the university's Telecommunications and Telematics Research Group (Grupo de Investigación en Telecomunicaciones y Telemática GITEL), attended the 38th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, held in Orlando, Florida, where he presented the paper titled "A System to Monitor Tremors in Patients with Parkinson's Disease", which seeks to control the movements of people with Parkinsons. The system they developed is able to give a precise measurement of the intensity of the patient´s shaking, which makes it a support tool for the specialist. The doctor can easily identify the severity of the disease and determine the amount and type of medication to prescribe the patient.

The International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society is the biggest event in this field and, thanks to its contributions, it leads the world in the progress on biomedical and health engineering. Alexander Bermeo and Marco Bravo, electronic engineers, current work as research assistants in the GITEL, as part of their graduation project, they worked on the technical project titled "Design and development of a wireless system to monitor tremors in patients with Parkinson's disease using free software and hardware." The project was under the guidance of professors Angel Soto and Monica Huerta.
