On April 5th, the university's branch campus in Guayaquil ended the training sessions for professors and while Andres Bayolo, vice president of UPS's branch in Guayquil, presented the yearly report of the work they have carried out.

The training sessions were about curriculums and how to plan and organize the information needed for different subjects. The topics were: objectives, contents, didactic sequence, methodology, evaluation mechanisms and bibliographic references; this will help fulfil the learning goals of students.

Additionally, professors were trained on the use of the new virtual learning environments, "technology should not and cannot be seperated from academia and teaching, that is why these courses are importatn before starting a new semester", said Roberto Rangel, UPS professor.

Andres Bayolo began his speech by congratulating all professors for their work in teaching and preparing future professionals. Regarding the report, some of topics that were presented were: the growth of UPS in the last few years, academic management, community involvement and infrastructure.

In his speech, he said that in the last few years there has been an important increase in the number of students and that there are now over 8,000 who study at UPS. "This growth is because students trust UPS for studying an undergraduate program", he said.

Regarding academia and community involvement, he said that in 2016 in the university's branch campus in Guayaquil there were 261 professors with master's degrees or PhDs, which represented 99.2% of the goal they had set on this matter but managed to accomplish the regulations established by control organizations. "The remaining 0,8% are still studying, hopefully for 2017 this number will increase and we will be able to guarantee quality education in the university", he said.

In community involvement, in 2016 the university signed 42 projects that benefited 8,500 people and meant joint work between the business public and private sector. "The labor fair we held is a way to put businesses in contact with students and for them to see we how UPS has well prepared students", he said.

Regarding academia, we are working on new undergraduate programs in Guayaquil: psychology and environmental engineering. Hopefully by the end of the year we will get them approved and they will be offered in 2018.

During this event, 16 professors were awarded recognition plaques for educating students in UPS for 15 years. "As professors we are committed to students' teaching and learning process", said Professor Raquel Donoso on behalf of the professors.
