Radio Mensaje inaugurated new areas

The University's Continuing Education Center inaugurated the new studios of Radio Mensaje, it now has a production, an emission studio and a control booth with up to date technology.

The inauguration was attended by Guillermo Churuchumbi, Mayor of Cayambe; Javier Herran, UPS President, Fernando Guaman, director of the Salesian community in Cayambe; Jose Juncosa, vice president of UPS's branch campus in Quito; Maria del Carmen Ramirez, director of the communication undergraduate program, professors, students and representatives of institutions that have supported this process.

Jose Juncosa said "Radio Mensaje supports the development of communities as well as the effort and creativity of students majoring in communication". Javier Herran reminded people that this means of communication started as a radio school for the process of literacy in the cantons of Pedro Moncayo and Cayambe. "Thousands of people learned how to read and write with Radio Mensaje, Now the context is different, we have to build citizenship", he said.

"The radio station started in 1967, it then became part of the Salesian Community of Cayambe, in 2013 the university's communication undergraduate program in Quito took on the organization of the programs and implemented constant education and training processes", said Ramirez. 

Fernando Guaman thanked UPS and Radio Mensaje for their contribution in developing communities in the area. The Mayor of Cayambe spoke about how important it has been for Radio Mensaje  to provide opportunities to talk about culture, identity and give people the opportunity say what they think.
